Blue Nile

Welcome to the Ethiopian Horizons website. My name is Gerald Gotzen. For a period of over 35 years my wife and I have been associated with Ethiopia - the land of history, mystery and beauty. During the mid 1960's we lived in Lalibela the sanctuary in stone with churches hewn out of the rock and regarded as one of the wonders of the world. Here the Royal Family employed us as managers of the Seven Olives Hotel.

Today we distribute large consignments of Bibles, publish Christian literature and minister practically to the Ethiopian people. There are signs of a real spiritual breakthrough, which is affecting every level of society. We also have a specific burden to help the Ethiopian Jews.

In the service of the Lord I have traveled from the Red Sea to the Blue Nile. Today we are concentrating our efforts as we observe the extension and expansion of the Kingdom of God in Ethiopia.

Although there are ethnic tensions and economic difficulties under the present government there is a freedom for the Gospel with signs of a real spiritual breakthrough which is effecting every level of society. Something wonderful is happening in this land and amongst these people - new life and hope for the future are evident.

Orthodox Ceremony in Lalibela

Left: Orthodox Ceremony in Lalibela

An amazing prophecy in Psalms 68:31 (which is so relevant) declares - 'Ethiopia will reach out her hand to God'.

For your interest the projects are as follows:

Distribution of large consignments of Bibles

The need and the demand to give Scriptures for the Ethiopian people is just tremendous - within the Orthodox church and the Renewal Movement (Tahadesso), the Evangelical-Charismatic Churches, to the remote regions in the Danakil desert amongst the nomadic Afar tribe to the nilotic peoples of Gambella, including the refugees from the Sudan. The people of Ethiopia, Christian and non-Christian are hungry for the Word of God.

Publishing Christian Literature

A selection in Amharic - 'Let My People Go', 'God's Plan for Israel', 'The Revolution of Love', 1,500,000 copies of the booklet 'The way of salvation'. Now in preparation 'My Utmost for His Highest' by Oswald Chambers. Ethiopian Christians, like all Christians need not only to accept Christ, but to become His disciples. This literature, is used for evangelism and discipling of the Ethiopian people.

Compassion and Concern for the 'Beit Israel'

For the thousands of remaining Ethiopian Jews (with a Christian background) and Jews from other nations now in Ethiopia, who live in destitute conditions struggling to survive. Their anguish is apparent. In their desperation they cry out 'Ye Israel Amalk' - 'The God of Israel' who is our only hope. Arrangements are made for them to receive in Addis Ababa and Gondar accommodation, grain, clothing and also medicine - all of which it vital.
